Type Face Self-Portrait
Step 1: Find Your Inspiration
Create a document with all the possible symbols you can compose with the keyboard of your computer
Choose an image of yourself from sometime in your life to use for this project.
Check your image size, it cannot be large than 8x10.5 inches and cannot be smaller than 5x7 inches.
Step 2: Give Your Inspiration Life
Using the magnetic lasso, remove your background.
You can choose to either keep it in color or change it to grayscale
Image-Mode-Grayscale
Open the photo you have chosen in photoshop and filter it
Go to image-adjustment-posterize and make an adjustment to your liking.
Step 3: Make a plan according to posterized sections
What symbols will you use to fill in the different sections?
Will you use the same symbol for all sections or will you use a different symbol for each section?
Step 4: Creating fill patterns for each section
To select the different posterized areas you will use your pen tool to outline the different areas created by the posterization of the photo.
You can outline all areas of the same value all on one layer.
You will create an original document that you will use to make all the patterns.
Play with different options in the character tool window and edit transform option.
You will have to make a smart object out of the text before you can transform the text.
Use the eye dropper to match your colors and values.
Pick a neutral value as a background color for all of your patterns
This will allow the symbol to stand out as making up your image.
When ready to create a pattern.

Step 5: Saving Procedure

Image-Canvas size, make sure it has not grown and is still 8x10.5 inches

Second flatten the layers: layer-flatten image and save as a .jpeg and then again as a .pdf
Total you should have 3 documents saved for this step
Send the .pdf as an attachment in an email
